Water on Mars

March 25th, 2008

NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter whcih consists the shallow subsurface radar (SHARAD) have captured images which indicates the scientists’ quest for finding water elsewhere on Mars can finally be fruitful.

Scientists’ have discovered frozen water in the planet’s mid-northern latitudes, which is far from its polar ice caps.  “Basically, this is ’squirting gun’ (evidence) for recent water on Mars,” says team scientist Ken Edgett, speaking at a NASA briefing. The findings appear this week in the journal Science. [Source]

US efforts at destroying its failed satellite

The US space department is fighting to kill its failed spy satellite (of a size roughly the size of a school bus).

The satellite was launched in Dec ‘06 which went dead due to unknown reasons after launch. Now its in the orbit of earth at about 208 km over the earth’s surface. Its sure that it would enter into the earth’s atmosphere, it is necessary to kill it keeping in mind the satellite’s fuel tank which is filled with 1000 pounds of toxic hydrazine. The President of the States have order Navy to destry the satellite by using a anti-missile interceptor aimed at the satellite, they are saying that its missiles had destroyed the satellite; but doubts persist about the fuel tank.

In every space voyager, before heading back to Earth, astronauts aboard the space shuttle have to use a little rocket science to perform one last task – filling tons of dirty laundry, empty food trays, packing foam and used equipment into the cargo carrier astronauts have to make sure trash was properly disposed of, using robotic arm to remove the carrier from the station and return it to the shuttle payload bay so that the trash could be brought back to Earth.

Second life Commerce: Amul plans aggressive online play

March 8th, 2008

With total customers spending money In-World (328, 122 L$ and increasing) globally, organisations have started visualising commerce in Second Life, and in this line Indian organisation are not behind. Second Life was treated largely as a gaming or networking portal in the beginning. But serious business is transacted on it now. “Trade worth rs 6.5 crore happens on the site daily,” says Siddharth Banerjee, aka Zeus Zetkin (as he is known on Second Life), CEO and Founder of IndusGeeks, another metaverse development company.

If we see the total transaction and population what we find a vast amount of footprints in online stores in Second Life and nobody wants to leg behind in this. The number of Indian In-World is anywhere over 12,000 and growing.

Resident Transaction by Amount

According to a Economic Times report with same title “Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation is studying the feasibility of starting an online store on Second Life, the virtual world owned by Linden Labs.

The article further argue the benefits which the company with brand name AMUL – The Taste of India – is looking after: To unleash a revolution in the online world.

Here there is no policy glitch, no threat of a Wal-Mart and no small kirana stores to reckon with.

They are in talks with Trimensions, a meta-verse development firm (creator of 3-D online environments) based in Gurgaon to find out whether it can take its product range online on Second Life, where Amul has already built an ice cream parlour. What’s a new wave at Amul is a new life for Second Life, a free virtual environment on the Internet where users create avatars, move around, interact with other users’ avatars.

Second Life

March 8th, 2008

Search on e-bay you will find land auctions (you can buy a whole island out of just few dollars), not for a real land but a virtual one, where you can create your own world as you wish. You can create buildings, roads, market-places, parks, you can create merchandising goods, you can sell them in your stores, can display your art.

What is Second Life: We are talking about a Internet-based virtual world ‘Second Life’ – a 3-D space where people could do whatever they want through their online avatars. Its creator is a California based company “Linden Research” (instauration in 2003) and the In-world currency in use Linden dollars comes from the name of the firm (approximately 250 Linden Dollar – L$ – equals to the US Dollar). The official Second Life Linden Dollar exchange is called Lindex.

What People do on Second Life: The millions of people who have bought ‘Second Life’ accounts engage in a range of activities from simply living a “Second life” to architecture, designing, gaming, doing serious business, education, brand promotion, and what not. The platform is so open (you can buy your own island and build a city on it – a city of your dream which you can visualize here. Find second life land pricing here) every kind of person finds something to do, no wonder why thousands are people are always online (living In-world). The technologically apt can use basic computer programming to create their own items in-world, ranging from clothing and accessories to furniture and utensils to buildings and even islands.

Given the site’s popularity, it’s no surprise that there has been a surfeit of books about “Second Life” lately. Wagner James Au, releases a comprehensive history of Second Life’s early days in his book “The Making of Second Life: Notes from the New World” (HarperCollins, $25.95).

Is it just a Game: So is this just for fun or is there any serious business in it. As the population is rising, business and society around the “World” have started taking “In-world” seriously, where it will be headed in future is still not surefooted. At least three countries have opened embassy In-world.

What I will do now?

March 1st, 2008

Huh? A cool three and a half month break between two posts and here again I am writing second time in a day.

1 Mar went very well with the thought that I am no longer carrying any responsibility of a big students’ website. But What I will do now:

  1. Why I am asking this question, I am having heavens lots of things to do, my to do list is too big, sometimes my to do list have first entries …to read to do list (its so big). I am as busy as a sardarji going back home in back gear.
  2. I would concentrate more on my professional, Bhai roti kapda aur makan to suna hoga? Main Kapda bechta hoon… I can do my all home work.
  3. I can find more time for myself. I can..this…that, I feel like spider man giving up his responsibility and going to watch her girl’s play.
  4. I would start writing again on my personal website here and would tweak the Google ad-Sence to get paid in dollar, if this dream happens true, I would be in my present company forever (as its a village environment, its quite peaceful, also my company take cares us very well) and would retire from here when I would become really old.
  5. I would leave office on time (No more overtime)
  6. I would give more time for a new project (Yet to unrevealed) though its related with AIMK alumni only.
  7. will make more to do lists. Will do follow up and maintain status.

What I will not do?

I will not do anything in aimk.org unless and until asked, even if its very serious. Thats not my job now.
