De-population

August 11th, 2007 | by Narendra |

How do people remember the failed sterilization drive of 70’s due to political havoc. It was India’s ploy to secure its people from over population. Now its an old talk about population blast. With the changing time it have been already proved that for India population is not a liability but a great resource. I had this idea of over population for quite a long time but recently I came to know about depopulation.

During the first stage of demographic transition, the industrial revolution in Europe, due to advancement in technology, better life style and better life expectancies it was believed that population growth with outnumber productivity, hence population was seen as a threat to human race. But it was proved wrong; but developed countries kept their policies for depopulation and now many developed nations are facing decline in population while developing nations like China and India are riping the strong human capital.

Still China is having mandatory one child policy for the sake of depopulation.

Dr. Henry Kissinger, who wrote: “Depopulation should be the highest priority of U.S. foreign policy towards the Third World.”

The effects of depopulation could be severe following are few possible consequences:

  • Migration
  • Crisis in welfare
  • Declining growth
  • Rise in age of retirement

According to Mr. Alok Sheel, “As the ageing and welfare crises in the developed world unravel, migration can be expected to increase sharply, equalising the global demographic structure over the long-term. “
